January and February
I haven't updated in just about FOREVER, so I'll just start where I left off, way back last winter.
For some reason I haven't really taken too many
pictures this year, but this is what I have for January and February.
Feeding deer in Nara with Lydia, Jamie, and Jamie's friend Livni. We also visited Toudaiji,
as one must when one visits Nara, and I actually managed to squeeze through the Buddha Nostril!
It's a tradition to climb through this hole in the pillar, but I never thought I'd fit!
Sometimes I help with the English club at one of the elementary schools in town. For
Valentine's Day, we made cookies! There wasn't really much English involved in this activity, but
most of the kids had never made cookies before and it was fun to teach them. At the same time, a
different club was making crepes, so I took pictures of both groups of kids.
I accompanied Lydia a few times on her hunts for geocaches. People all over the world hide
small logs or boxes of trinkets and log the GPS location online, for other site members to try to
find. One was hidden in Tennoji Park in Osaka, so we headed there one rainy day to look for it. We
actually didn't find the box that day, but it was a pretty park that we'd never visited before, and
we enjoyed ourselves.
The last event in this section (I told you I haven't been taking enough pictures!) is the
Kansai Gaidai graduation. A few of our good Japanese friends were graduating from Gaidai, so Alyson
and I made cookies for presents and trekked to Hirakata to see the ceremony. We had to watch on a
screen in a separate building, but it was nice to see them all dressed up and to congratulate them
after the ceremony. The first picture is Alyson and her friends Misako, Yuuko, and Crazy Megumi, as
well as another friend we don't know. The others are of us and Yuuki! Yay Yuuki! We miss you!!
